It doesn’t do the job., 23 Feb 2010

The element is ring shaped and situated half way between the centre and the outer rim. When it is first switched on the pan heats up and the food starts cooking. Within a couple of minutes the thermostat switches off the power to the element. The pan then cools right down and the food stops cooking. After a longish wait the element heats up again and the food restarts cooking. Not at all suitable for purpose.

This is a very useful oven – heats up almost immediately. It goes up to Regulo 5 which is fine for everyday cooking. The flat surface makes it much easier to clean than the traditional oven. I haven’t found that the cooking surface is uneven. One review above suggests that it turns off and stops cooking – this is not my experience at all. It goes on as soon as the heat goes below the requested regulo. In fact it is exactly the same as any other oven in this respect. Another review above refers to it as a frying pan – this is misleading – the shape is similar to a frying pan but this is an oven, and no fat or oil is required for cooking. I have been able to cook everything I would normally have done in an oven and just as well – small cakes, baked apples, meat – and the use of electricity would be much less.

I bought this for my mother who has dementia and cannot cook using a gas oven any more. She finds it easy to use and can cook a full english breakfast on it. It is pretty big however and would equally be suitable for a family or even someone running a guest house.
